Many people visit us and ask “So, what does ‘Jibaro’ mean?”

We think that this is a great question and we want everyone to know the history behind
our name and how it reflects what we do.

On the whole, “Jibaro” is a distinctive term that describes the meaningful
relationship between a person and his homeland, encompassing the nature of his culture
through its many facets of expression such as, music, dance,
communication, food, etc.

More specifically to the nature of our restaurant, “Jibaro” is a term used
particularly in Puerto Rico, to describe a typical farmer in the countryside of the island
who tills his own land and uses hard work, dedication, and passion to
cultivate his own food. The richest and most authentic home grown foods are found in
his household and are what he provides for his family and friends.
Cultivating food is not just his job, it is also his passion.

Food is our passion here at Jibaro Latin Café™, and just like the farmer, el Jibaro, we base
ourselves on the traditions of our cultures as we invite you to our table with our families
to join us for food, fun, and friendship.
